| 1 | André Drege died following a crash during the descent of the Grossglockner High Alpine Road on stage 4 of the 2024 Tour of Austria. To commemorate André Drege, a memorial stone has been erected at the scene of the accident. The beautiful stone comes from the Glockner region and symbolizes Austria's highest mountain in miniature format. The pattern on it represents the magnificent high alpine road. | Click here to see the monument on a picture. |
The monument is located on the descent from the Hochtor towards Heiligenblut shortly after the roundabout with the turn-off towards the Franz Josef Höhe.
Click here to see on Google Maps the place where I think this memorial is located: This guessed location is based on the background of the memorial picture and what I saw in Google Streetview. Click here to see what I think matches the background of the memorial on the picture. |
As I don't know the location I would like to ask you in case you are going to the Grossglockner area to look out if you can locate this memorial stone
and share the GPS coordinates or a Googlemaps link via the contact form (see bottom of this age).
Please also take pictures which can be shared when I reply to the message that was sent via the contact form.

| 2 | There seems to be a cycling statue that is located next to Lake Balaton. | Click here to see the monument on a picture. |
The monument is located near Balatonfüred on Tagore stny. Click here to see on Google Maps the place where I think this cycling statue is located. But it's a wild guess to be honest. I can't figure it out from the background of the picture. |
As I don't know the location I would like to ask you in case you are going to Balatonfüred on the west shore of Lake Balaton to look out if you can locate this cycling statue and share the GPS coordinates or a Googlemaps link via the contact form (see bottom of this age).

| 3 | On the Col du Tourmalet there are many memorials you can see. But once there were 3 plaques located below the Le Géant du Tourmalet. After the building of Maison du Tourmalet the entire area on the Col du Tourmalet was redesigned. So Le Géant du Tourmalet moved from high on it's wall to a lower position where cyclists can now take pictures of it with the Pyrenees as backdrop. Also the buste of Jacques Goddet was relocated and is now incorporated in the wall of the Maison du Tourmalet. Below Le Géant du Tourmalet where 3 plaques and these are gone now it seems. It's for these 3 plaques that I would like to have your help. |
So which 3 plaques am I looking for?
|
I don't have a clue where the plaques are nowadays. My former colleague Marco Schouten checked the 5th of July 2026 on Col du GTourmalet and could find any trace of these 3 plaques. |
As I don't know where the 3 plaques are now or what happened to them I would like to ask you in case you are going to Col du Tourmalet if you can ask in Masion du Tourmalet or Chez Octave
(the cafe/restaurant located opposite to Maison du Tourmalet) if they know where the plaques are now or what happened to them. Or if you know what happened to them then please then please
send me this information via the contact form, see bottom of this page.

| 4 | On the Sella Chianzutan is a plaque that looks like it is related to the Giro d'Italia. But the text on the picture is not very clear. Hence I'd like your help as I would like to know what the exact text is that is on the plaque. | Click here to see the plaque on Sella Chianzutan on a picture. | The plaque is located on the summit of the Sella Chianzutan. |
As I am not sure of the text I would like to ask you in case you are going to Friuli Venezia Giulia and to the Sella Chiuzutan if you can make a better picture of the text
so I can verify if this is indeed a CRI. The pictures can be shared when I reply to the message that you have visited Seall Chianzutan and have taken a better picture via
the contact form.

| 4 | There is a plaque for Dr. Peter Nowell that I found on Facebook but of which I have not been able to find the location of it. | Click here to see a picture of the plaque for Dr. Peter Nowell. |
On Facebook it is indicated that there’s a stretch of road in Lancashire that has very modest, easily missed memorials to two notable British cyclists: Bill Bradley and Dr. Peter Nowell.
The road from Dunsop Bridge to Quernmore, over the Trough of Bowland, is where they can be found.
Note: I was able to locate the plaque for Bill Bradley. It is located near a cattle grid near to the Through of Bowland pass. This will be CRI 836. |
So in case you go to Lancashire and from Dunsop Bridge via the Trough of Bowland to Quernmore, could you gthen keep an eye open if you can spot this plaque?
It'll be a needle in a haystack to find it as it is so small. But I hope your keen eyes are able to spot the one for Dr. Peter Nowell.
In case you find it then please share the GPS coordinates or a Googlemaps link via the contact form (see bottom of this age).
Please also take pictures which can be shared when I reply to the message that was sent via the contact form.
